At the end of May 2024, the Killie Trust’s representative on the board of Kilmarnock Football Club, Cathy Jamieson, will come to the end of her second and final term as a director  .

We are asking anyone with an interest in taking up this post to let us know in the next few weeks. 

There are 6 key criteria required for someone to become the Trust’s director on the KFC board.

  • To have served at least six months on the Trust Board.
  • Completed Trust Board director’s training.
  • Fit and proper person to be a member of the Trust Board.
  • Not an office bearer on the Trust Board.
  • Be acceptable to the Trust Board as their representative on the football club board and also to the board of Kilmarnock Football Club.
  • Be a member of the Trust throughout the initial six months and during their time as representative on the Club Board.

The position of Trust Director on the board of Kilmarnock Football Club is as a company director and the successful candidate will be registered as a director at Companies House. They will be subject to the relevant regulations as a director of the company.  

At this stage, initial expressions of interest are being sought ahead of the formal nomination process commencing. If there is more than one candidate identified during that process who fit the criteria for this position, there will be an election held to allow the Killie Trust membership to select the new potential director.

Killie Trust Club Director - Job Description and Activities


The Killie Trust Club Director must fulfil all the legal and fiduciary duties required of any Company Director.  However, the Trust Club Director has additional responsibilities including representing the views of the Killie Trust within the Club Board, liaising appropriately with the Killie Trust on matters related to the strategic direction and operations of the Club.


In addition to the membership requirements of the Trust, the Director must not have been disqualified by a court from acting as a Company Director or be an undischarged bankrupt.

It is desirable for candidates to have the following personal qualities: 


  • Integrity and trustworthiness
  • Diplomacy
  • Confidentiality 
  • Be articulate verbally and in writing 
  • Ability to exercise judgement 
  • Media / social media skills 


The time requirements for the position can be substantial.

The Trust Supporter Director must be prepared to undertake Director Training, including in relation to financial management.


Legal Duties and Implications 

The Killie Supporters Director has the same legal responsibilities to Kilmarnock FC and their shareholders as all the other Directors and therefore must act at all times in the best interest of Kilmarnock FC as a whole. 

However, the Trust Supporters Director has the additional responsibility to ensure that the best interests will be informed and influenced by the views of the Trust members and the broader supporter base.

The Trust Supporter Director would be expected to work in cooperation and agreement with the rest of the KFC Board. The KFC Board primarily works on a consensus basis, with the aim of reaching agreement amongst Directors. However, where consensus cannot be reached and a decision is arrived at by majority vote, it is expected that all Directors accept this as the collective view of the Board of Directors.

It is therefore important that the Trust Supporter Director engages actively with all matters relating to Kilmarnock FC, including finance issues. 

Supporters Director Obligations to Killie Trust Board 

Acknowledging and fully accepting the legal duties and implications as above, the Killie Trust Supporter Director should also properly carry out the duties and responsibilities in relation to the Killie Trust Board 



Killie Trust Supporters Director Remit 

  • represent the membership of the Killie Trust and broader Kilmarnock FC supporters’ interests. 
  • to act as a “bridge” and a pro-active communication channel between the Killie Trust and the Kilmarnock FC Board.
  • take responsibility to act in the best interests of Kilmarnock FC at all times, including promoting best practice found in other clubs. 


 Responsibilities and Activities: 

  • Attend and participate in Kilmarnock FC Board meetings, shareholder meetings, Club AGM 
  • participate actively in formulating the direction and strategy of the Club, including developing policy.
  • Managing effective communication between Killie Trust Board and Kilmarnock FC 
  • Having a duty of care for club employees and corporate responsibilities, including health and safety plus fiduciary duties 
  • Attending as many home and away matches as possible, using the opportunity to interact with Kilmarnock FC directors, other Club Directors, sponsors, staff and supporters, 
  • Attending Fans Forums arranged by Killie Trust and /or Kilmarnock FC and being available for questions
  • Providing regular written reports to the Killie Trust membership and broader supporter base 
  • Attending and participating in Killie Trust Board monthly meetings and AGM giving regular reports and updates on appropriate information, and on matters requiring discussion and/or input from the Trust, 
  • Pro-actively seeking the views and concerns of Killie Trust members and supporters, communicating any significant issues raised to the relevant parts of the club and attempting to secure the best outcome for the supporters, bearing in mind the director’s ultimate legal responsibilities.
  • Being available for supporters to contact via various channels and either resolving queries or directing to appropriate club staff for response 
  • Participating in and supporting the activities of Kilmarnock Community Sports Trust, especially where there are partnerships with Killie Trust
  • Participating in and supporting activities of KFC Youth Academy and Women’s / Girls teams in addition to first teams and development teams, particularly where there are partnerships with Killie Trust 
  • Liaising with the media, especially with regard to promoting Kilmarnock FC and Killie Trust activities.
  • Maintaining contact with Kilmarnock FC Supporter Liaison Officer and supporters’ groups
  • Maintaining contact with Supporter’s organisations including SDS and SFSA, as well as engaging with other Supporter Directors in Scottish Clubs and 
  • Representing Kilmarnock FC as required in various SFA / SPFL forums, meetings and activities 
  • Being prepared to be involved in supporting Kilmarnock FC staff in their roles as appropriate 
  • with other KFC Directors, hosting visiting Clubs, officials, sponsors etc
  • Liaising with local Council officials and elected members as required 
  • Various other miscellaneous duties may be required from time to time
