Budding goalkeepers get masterclass from ex-Killie stopper Samson

Youngsters at the Killie Trust Goalkeeping Academy were given a day to remember when they received a masterclass from former Killie stopper Craig Samson.

Craig generously gave up his time at the Scott Ellis Playing Fields during the summer to teach the budding goalkeepers everything he knows.

He played over 75 times for Killie and won the Scottish League Cup with St Mirren in 2013.

The kids took part in fun games that tested their skills alongside plenty of drills to sharpen their movements.

The goalkeeping academy is run by a dedicated group of volunteers coaches, led by Stuart Gilmour.

Stuart said: “Craig is the uncle of one of our young goalkeepers, so he kindly said he would come down.

“It’s all about showing the kids where you can go with the professionals coming in and giving them an idea of the levels.

“We’re hoping to get Cammy Bell down and ex-Partick Thistle goalkeeper Kenny Arthur as well.”

Stuart says there are still plenty of places left for any budding goalkeepers looking to get involved.

He added: “At our peak we can have 30 or 40 kids involved, so we are building up to those levels again.

“Boys and girls can get involved. They all play for different teams but are so enthusiastic when they come here.”
